Reflex Hammer Babinski

Babinski reflex hammer from Medipharchem, 22 cm long. The hammer has a round rubber head on a straight stainless steel shaft and is used to elicit and assess tendon reflexes, such as the patellar and Achilles reflexes. Unlike simpler models, the Babinski hammer has a needle stored in the end of the handle, so you can perform a simple sensory examination with the same instrument.

Reflexes and sensation in one instrument

The round head gives an even, easily controlled tap on the tendon. The needle is used to test pain sensation and cutaneous reflexes at the bedside or in the clinic, without having to reach for a separate instrument.

Cleaning

The reflex hammer is supplied non-sterile. Clean and disinfect it by wiping with a cloth moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol and allow to air dry. It must not be immersed in liquid and must not be autoclaved. Check the rubber head regularly to make sure it has not hardened or come loose.
