How do I know which spare parts kit fits my stethoscope?
The model name is printed on the tubing or engraved on the chestpiece — for example Classic III or Cardiology IV. The kit is chosen by model, not by the colour of the stethoscope. Classic III, Cardiology IV and CORE Digital share the same kit, while Master Cardiology, Master Classic, Lightweight II SE and the paediatric models have their own.
How often should the diaphragm be replaced?
Replace it when the diaphragm has cracks, scratches or a visible dent, or when the sound has become duller without the ear tips leaking. With daily clinical use this is usually a matter of a few years. A damaged diaphragm above all reproduces high-frequency sounds less well, and the deterioration is gradual enough that you get used to it.
Which ear tip size should I use?
The one that seals without hurting. The size follows the width of the ear canal, not body size, so try both of the included sizes. If neither seals, ambient noise gets in and auscultation suffers no matter which model you bought — that is the most common reason a new stethoscope is perceived as weak.
Can I replace the parts myself?
Yes. The ear tips are screwed on by hand and the diaphragm snaps into the rim around the chestpiece, without tools. It takes about a minute per part. Just make sure the rim sits evenly all the way round, otherwise air leaks between the diaphragm and the chestpiece and the sound becomes weaker.
